Quick Update

Mommy D was released from the mental health hospital, and unfortunately was set free to go back onto the streets.  No one seems to quite know why she wasn't arrested, as she has more warrants out for her.  She went back to the hotel that she was staying in to gather up her belongings, but the hotel had already taken care of her items for her.  She is currently staying in another motel.

We continue to pray for her and that she will choose to start making wise decisions.

Visit with Mommy D

Yesterday I had text our social worker to see if she had any updates on how Mommy D was feeling (she had been sick with what the social worker thought was bronchitis).  I didn't hear anything back, so just continued about the rest of the day.  This morning when I got up I saw that the social worker had text me at about 2:00 a.m. and said to call her on Saturday for an update.  So about 8:20 a.m., I called her and she said that Mommy D was in the hospital.  She was asking to see us, so we scheduled a time to go when the social worker could be there with us.  I had thought it was just a regular hospital...it was a mental health hospital.  She had gone to the ER for her bronchitis, and had also been tested, which came back positive for drugs. :(  So now she has violations of her parole and we should find out next week if she will go back to jail.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect from a mental health hospital, but at least this one was a very positive experience.  The staff were super friendly and helpful and went to go find Mommy D once we got there because she wasn't in her room.  It was kind of like going to jail, where we couldn't bring anything in with us (like a cell phone, purse, etc) or we would need to lock them up.  We had to have id so we could get our visitor badges.  Doors had to be unlocked for us to enter and then unlocked for us to get back out.  Plastic bags and anything with strings were not allowed.  We brought some goodies along for her such as snacks, the little Bible that was donated, some personal items and some clothes.  While we were waiting for them to bring Mommy D to us, we were having all of the items we brought inspected to make sure that they were all ok.  We were behind one of the doors, my back to the door, when all of a sudden I heard someone excited on the other side saying my name.  When I looked through the window in the door, it was Mommy D!  She was so excited to see us!  The hugs we received from her were amazing!  I am so glad it worked out for us to be able to go see her, and I hope it was an encouragement for her!  Skeeter shared from his heart with her before we left letting her know that we were/are praying for her and the baby.  He also let her know that we care, not just about the baby, but also about her as a person!  It was so neat how the social worker told us before we left that we had honored Mommy D by coming to visit her and that when she talks with the social worker Mommy D will often tell her to tell us that she loves us.

We will see what next week will bring.  It sounds like a decision could be made on Monday as what might be the next step for her.  If I don't hear anything Monday, I will check with the social worker on Tuesday.

There is also starting to be a bit of a discrepancy as to when her the baby's due date will be.  They are now saying it could be September 11, due to the baby measuring small.  However, we are not convinced that the baby isn't small due to the diet, drugs, etc and lifestyle of the mommy.  We are hoping to get some more confirmed medical records.

Before we left this morning we went to a garage sale where everything was free.  It was a HUGE blessing as we were able to find quite a few things for the baby as well as shoes and clothes for our other kids!  God is so good!

Thanks for continuing to pray for Mommy D and the baby!  We will update you when we know more!

Seeing God at Work is Exciting!!

Some of you have been asking how things are going.  We had hoped to have a date to give you as to when we had scheduled a "play date" with Mommy D, but so far it hasn't been able to be worked out.  I have been in touch with the social worker a couple of times this week and here are the latest updates.  Mommy D is showing signs that her delivery will come sooner than August 22, and she is also sick with what they suspect is bronchitis.  Please pray that her medical card will soon be approved so she can receive appropriate medical care.  We especially pray that the medical card will be approved before the baby arrives!!    I can't imagine being miserable, sick, pregnant, alone and living in a hotel room!  Praying for her that through this whole deal that she can rely on Jesus and turn to Him for the love that she so desperately desires!

So...how do we respond??  "Unfortunately", my maternal instincts are kicking in much stronger now and the time just seems to be dragging by.  We have started making a list of baby names, but have not yet settled on one and probably won't until we are closer.  We have, though, started the process of mentally thinking through the things we need to get ready in the event that she does deliver early.  One of the things we like to do, and most recommend that you do this, is to present the birth mother with some kind of a gift as a gesture for all she has done!  How can a "thank you" be good enough for a mother placing HER baby into OUR arms?!  Because I am not used to how to handle and best help homeless people, last night I polled the adoption group that I am in for some ideas of a gift that we could do.  An idea was born and I started posting requests for help on some garage sale sites on facebook and the results can only be explained by the Lord's doing.

Less than 24 hours later...

...all of this was donated by people that I had never met before!!  Included in the donations was a little new testament (which is on the left corner of the back pack)!!  One of the ladies who donated, went on a shopping trip just for Mommy D and prayed before she went in so that she would know just what to buy!  Isn't the family of God amazing?!  I was even able to order a new devotional book for free for her from Amazon using some credits!  I am just so overwhelmed with how God worked all of this out!!  There are a few items left that we would like to add, but then our project has been completed and we can't wait to get this to Mommy D, once she delivers in the hospital.

Thank you for your continued prayers!
