Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from him. Psalm 127:3

Feeling a Bit Overwhelmed Today

Life continues to go forward, even though Skeeter is in Mexico.  Yesterday we finally got the carpet cleaned from when our basement was accidentally flooded.  Today our carpet padding was replaced.   I hope to get everything all back to "normal order" in the basement before Skeeter gets back. :)

Before Skeeter left for Mexico he had attempted making contact with our roofer who was supposed to take care of our repairs from the major hail storm last summer.  Our repairs have still not been completed! :/  The roofer had hired a local man to come and finish the task, but when Skeeter hadn't heard from him in awhile, he asked the roofer about it.  His response was that it was not a good relationship. So Skeeter proceeded to ask (via text) if he had considered getting a replacement.  There was no response.  So I called and actually got a hold of someone yesterday (working numbers have been quite a problem), and she said she would talk to the roofer and get back with me.  So far I haven't heard anything, and will probably need to make another call if I don't hear anything soon.  I am just so ready to get this all settled!

Anne had a physical last week!  She hadn't been feeling very well so we talked over her symptoms with the doctor.  Anne then had a bunch of blood work done.  We got a call today saying that her insulin resistance test had come back abnormal and that she is PRE-DIABETIC! :(  So she is to start a prescription to help her with all the extra insulin she has in her body (her pancreas is producing so much insulin that her body can't keep up with it).  We are meeting with another doctor tomorrow to see what he says.  I envision that there will definitely be dietary changes for the family as well as trying to put together a regular exercise routine.   We pray that with all of the changes we need to make that we will have wisdom and that we can correct this issue before she develops diabetes.  So thankful the doctor thought to run all the tests that she did so that this issue could be addressed.

With Skeeter being in Mexico, we no longer have daily contact with him. This has been especially difficult for the kids.  Each child is handling it in their own way, but Adia seems to really be taking this hard.  Every night before bed there are complaints of tummy aches and just not wanting to go to bed (that last part is fairly common).

Thank you for continuing to pray.  As I've been telling the kids...sometimes we need to make sacrifices so that these children in Mexico can hear about Jesus.  I am hoping to take the kids to the park to play and perhaps the water park.  I am trying to think of ways to help keep them occupied so that they don't find time to argue! :/  We are so ready for Daddy to come back home....but not until he has finished in Mexico what God has called him to do!

Day 4 - Final Preparations

Skeeter called this morning and it will probably be Friday or Saturday before we will get to talk with him again. :(  Yesterday, they finished up their training for the VBS/Carnival.  One of the things they learned was how to make animals and other fun shapes out of balloons.  Skeeter had done this when we worked the fair ministry with Child Evangelism Fellowship, so he had fun sharing some new ideas of things to make out of the balloons.  Last night, Skeeter was also able to share a devotional challenge with the group as well.

Today they left the church that they were staying at in California.  This picture is a view of what you would see from the church.  Skeeter said that on one side of the church building if you looked down you could actually see Tijuana from there.

Praise the Lord they were able to cross the border smoothly and safely!  According to the tentative schedule, they most likely hit the ground running once they reached Tijuana and got settled in.  Please be in prayer for the team as some of the members are already tired.  The weather hasn't been terribly hot there, Skeeter said it has been in the 80's, but they haven't always been able to have air conditioning.  So that in and of itself along with a new schedule and culture can wear one out more quickly. (I wish I could take a "ride" on the inflatable water slide Skeeter mentioned they would have at the VBS! :) )

I've been told the internet doesn't always work too well there, so there might not be any further updates until the end of the week when they return to the States.  Thank you so much for praying!  I can't wait to see what God is going to do!

Day 3 - Tomorrow is the BIG Day!

Skeeter called this morning and said that the group is having a wonderful time!  Last night they were able to enjoy relaxing at the beach (Skeeter enjoyed riding the waves).  Skeeter also found out that fish tacos are pretty yummy!

Skeeter also mentioned that while he was eating his fish tacos that a news reporter sat down at his table. She is covering the story of the immigration problem at the border.  She mentioned that Mexico has dug a tunnel underneath the border so that vehicles can carry immigrants into the United States.  We had heard about some trouble at the border but we didn't know about this (perhaps we are just a bit slow in catching the news :/ ).

Tomorrow is the BIG day!  Tomorrow morning they will leave California and head to Tijuana, Mexico. Tijuana is about an hour or so from where they are staying in California, and is 2 hours behind us.  So tomorrow they will depart at 8:00 a.m., for Mexico, while it will be 10:00 a.m. here.  Please pray for safety as they cross the border and that the process will go smoothly.  From what I understand, Tijuana, is known for drugs, so the ministry opportunity will be huge!  They have been told to expect hundreds of kids to attend this VBS/Carnival (at 2:30 p.m., their time, 4:30 p.m. our time).  We pray that many children will learn about Jesus and that they will continue to attend the church there in Tijuana once the team leaves.

I know when I went on a missions trip to Mexico I went with the mindset of ministering to the people there. It ended up that they ministered to me just as much!  Praying for a week full of spiritual growth for the team and that many will hear about the love Jesus has for them and become a part of His family.

Day 2

Skeeter has been video chatting with us about twice a day. (Once he gets to Mexico he won't be able to do that anymore. :( ) The kids have been so excited to share what they have been doing as well as getting a "tour" of where daddy is staying.  Today they had some training for what they will be doing once they arrive in Mexico.  This evening the plan was to relax a bit at the beach.

Tomorrow they will attend the church that will be sending workers with our team to Mexico (I think they have 3-4 services).  Then they will receive some "last minute" training.  As you are praying, you can keep in mind that right now they are two hours behind us.  Thanks for praying!

Day 1 Update and Jaydon's First 4th

When one goes on a missions trip, it seems like something always happens to make the trip more interesting, or sometimes more stressful.  This trip started out no differently!  Skeeter left the house around 3:15 a.m., and arrived at the church early as they planned to leave at 3:45 a.m.  Around 3:30-3:35 a.m., he called me to ask where his passport was as he couldn't find it in his luggage.  I looked in the house and sure enough, there it was sitting on the piano.  So he had to come all the way back home to get it and then turn around and get back to the church so that they could leave.  I am guessing the migraine he had last night affected his thinking somewhat as he finished gathering up his luggage. :(  So thankful he caught that error before they left for the trip, or who knows what would've happened.  All must have gone well in getting to the airport in time, because I received a text at 9:08 a.m., that they had arrived in California.  He also mentioned that gasoline out there is $4.21 a gallon!  Ouch!!

They then enjoyed getting to do some sight seeing at Disneyland.  I was so excited when Skeeter emailed me a picture of some characters he met from one of my favorite movies. :)

I can only imagine what the fireworks display will be like there this evening!  I bet it will be an amazing show. So thankful they get to have some "down time" before they get down to work next week!  Thanks for continuing to pray!

On another note, today was Jaydon's first 4th of July!  He wasn't too sure about the loud fireworks.  Those seemed to be a bit scary for him.  But he enjoyed the parade this morning as he played on the sidewalk while the parade was going on behind him.  LOL!

Missions Trip Begins Tomorrow

Tomorrow is the big day!  It seemed so far away when the planning first began and now it is here!  Skeeter, along with approximately 11 other people, will depart from our church around 3:45 a.m., July 4.  What an early start!  They will take a bus to Wichita and then fly to California.  They will spend a couple of days in California, getting in some sight seeing as well as visiting with the church they will be working with in Mexico. The group will then leave for Mexico on Monday morning.  If the Lord brings this group to mind, you can pray specifically around 2:30 p.m., Monday - Wednesday, as this is when they will be doing a children's carnival, which will include a gospel skit, music, water slide, snacks, balloon animals, face painting, etc. There will be other times throughout the day that they will be ministering in the neighborhood spending time building relationships with the kids.  It sounds like there will be some other work projects that they will do as well.  Then on Thursday, they will have the carnival at 10:30 a.m., followed by a finale so to speak at 7:00 p.m.  This will include: preaching, snow cones, wordless drama, music, slides, etc.  Please be in prayer for the leaders as they prepare the lessons, that Jesus would speak through them and that they will share what He wants them to share.  Also please be in prayer for the children who will attend, that Jesus will already be working in their hearts to soften them to be ready to accept the gift of salvation.

Then on Friday, they will return to California.  The team should arrive back in Wichita on Saturday, around 11:30 p.m., and then arrive back in Hutchinson around 1:00 a.m., on Sunday, July 13.  They will get a few hours of sleep and then head to Sunday School and church (10:45 a.m.) where the team will share how Jesus worked during their missions trip.

Please pray for strength, safety, good health, wisdom and that the trip will bring the team closer together as well as closer to Jesus.  Pray for Skeeter as he is headed into the trip already exhausted.  His job switched him to another location yesterday which is more physical labor than where he had been, and just about every muscle in his body is sore.

I don't know how many updates I will receive while they are gone, but I will do my best to pass along any updates that I can so that you can see how God is answering prayers!

Please be in prayer for me as I become a "single parent" for 10 days!  Pray that I will have the wisdom and strength that I will need to keep things running smoothly.  It seems like whenever Skeeter is gone, something breaks down, so we pray nothing happens this time. :)

Now to see if I can get Jaydon to sleep....3:00 a.m., is going to come awful quickly! :/
