We received a call from Julie this evening that due to the holiday, they weren't able to transfer "S" to the maternity home until today. To be approved at the home you have to go through an assessment which includes a urine analysis. Unfortunately, she did not pass the test, and is now in a inpatient treatment center to get help and to get her system clean. If/when she passes the treatment, then if there is room she will go back to the maternity home.
Our questions that we are researching and praying about is whether or not we are looking at some severe birth defects due to the drugs (looking at marijuana and/or meth). She has a doctor's appointment on Thursday and hopefully they will do a ultrasound and hopefully that will give us some more answers. Any of you who are medically inclined and or know where we should research, we would love to hear from you. Since she is stopping now, will the risks be less or just as bad as if she had continued through the pregnancy?
At this point, it sounds as though because of the drugs, "S" will not get to keep her child no matter what. The baby will either be placed for adoption or be taken by the state and placed in foster care.
Please be in prayer for us as we seek God's will in this situation!

DeleteI have known women who did drugs during pregnancy without significant harm to their babies. I think that the government & others use scare tactics in an attempt to keep women from doing drugs or motivate them to abort if they do use drugs. Not that drug use isn't harmful some times. STDs can cause birth defects/neonatal infection, & drug use is often accompanied by STD exposure.
